Hi all,
I wonder if I'm the only blind person who reads e-books? I'm not talking about audio books. I'm on dial up, and a long mp mp3 book would take forever to download, and I don't have the disc space. I know books read by synthetic speech will never take the place of human speech, but at fictionwise.com, I find books that aren't available from nls.
I'm having a problem with 2 magazines I bought and downloaded. I'm using adobe acrobat reader 6, and one of the magazines wasn't downloaded at all, so I went back to download it again and save a copy, and it said, this isn't allowed. When I try to open the other one, acrobat reader says it can't be found. Perhaps this has something to do with the name windows gave it, ahmmm. The magazine is alfred hitchcocks mystery magazine, but windows named it ahmm. It made sense to me, so I just let the name stay. Another thing I'm having an issue with is page numbers. For instance, the contents at the beginning might say a story is on page 59, but when I go to that page, that's not where the story begins. the story may be already in progress, but the actual beginning may be on page 62, or 52, but the beginning is not where the contents says it is. Can anyone shed some light on this, and tell me what to do to jump to the exact page number? Anyway, the 2 magazines, as long as I read them when I first download them, I can read them fairly, but if I exit adobe reader and come back later, they're gone, or can't be located. Funny how I can have such difficulty with some pdf files, and can read others just fine. I bought a book of horror stories, twelve tingly tales, and adobe reads them just fine, and I can read them without having to be connected to the net.

Well, I have a huge collection of EBooks. They're just in text format, so if you want anything in particular, let me know.
yes i would like some ebooks do you no any places where i could get some. am looking for jeffery deaver, or robert jordan. hopefully for free. i dont have a lot of money right now with my just moving in to a new apartment.
Thanks
Xena
Thanks crazy musician, the only problem with text books is that's impossible to save your place, after you've exited the book. I'm doing much better with the books, and the last time I saved a copy of a magazine, it did download it. I think if I just skip page 1, it reads ok, because page 1 has cover art, or some sort of picture. I'm on the fictionwise email list, and when I asked about the page number problem, the list owner said it was a mistake, that the page numbers referred to the print page numbers, but the page could change according to how someone changed the format. I'm doing a bit better with adobe reader now, thanks.

Xena. I have some Jeffery Deaver books. I haven't edited them or anything, so I can't vouch for their quality, but let me know if you want 'em
yes i would like them also am wondering if you have any peter straub and john saul. hehe i was a member of bookshare but i cant afford to keep the subscription. lol. if you want to send them to my email could you send them to cybershelly@usfamily.net. the kinds of documents i can use are microsoft word, word pad, and txt files and the only unzipping thing i have is win zip.
Thanks for offering the books, if you want anything from me, well all mine are either brf or txt just ask and i will try to make them in to txt for you.
no problem... I have a translation software on my comp :)
What books would ya like? I hve a bunch of Deaver's books... no Peter Straub or John Saul though; I can ask someone who does :P
the deaver books would be awesome right now. um how about robert jordan? i have the first four in the series, the wheel of time i mean. i have all nine terry goodkind books, plus the entire stephen king collection. I can send you stuff but i would have to use aim, or skype because i cant send attachments because i dont have outlook explorer on my computer.
If you need any authors just put a list on here and i will check to see if i have any in my collection. do you by any chance have any anne Rice books? or piers anthony.
there is a way with txt u can either put in a word that should not be in a book like that and search, or make an extra copy of the book, and each time your done reading select to the top and delete to the top so you are left with just what you have not read yet. cheers
